Already devastating economic conditions in Pakistan has been further aggravated by current floods. The destruction caused by recent floods exceeds Rs.385 billion which is larger than the combine sum total of loss faced in Tsunami, Haiti earthquake and 2005 Kashmir earthquake. The foreign Aid received in response to this colossal calamity is $16.16 per effected person which is far less than the ones seen during other disasters in the world: $ 1,249 in Tsunami and $1,087 in Haiti catastrophe per effected person. The figures speaks by themselves. The comparison is ridiculous. There can be many reasons for this aberration. Some may argue that foreign community do not trust corrupt Pakistanis, while other would be of the opinion that foreign funding may help Taliban strengthen their infrastructure. In response to an article written by UN official urging world to help flood effected people of Pakistan, I even read a gentleman saying that Pakistanis often talked about their Allah. Why they are asking for help to us? Why don't they pray to their Allah to help them? Reasons can be varied , but you cannot sue anyone for not helping you in an emergency. It is like a writing on the wall that Pakistan alone cannot cope with this situation, but still you cannot blame others for not helping you. It is the responsibility of People of Pakistan to stand up for their fellow nationals. But one thing which is pretty much disturbing in the current scenario is that that IMP and World Bank has offered more loans to flood ridden country.
It is an open secret how USA has become super power of world. We are all familiar with the term Economic Imperialism. Loans have been used as ammunition to fight this economic war for decades which are given through IMF and WB.Under Developed Countries are offered lucrative loans for development. Once they are given it is made sure (through secret agents) that these countries go bankrupt and became unable to pay their loan amount back. Once they are trapped in this loan-web, they are bound to follow the instructions given by Uncle Sam in terms of economic and political policies of their countries. Many Pakistanis believe that Pakistan should not continue to be an allay of America, but they don't realize that Pakistan is not capable enough to be on its own. We need financial assistance. May it be in the form of Herman-Kerry-Luger Law or some other loan assistance by international agencies. Precisely, Pakistan has also been trapped in an economic web. Consequently, we cannot follow our free will in our policies. Total debt owed by Pakistan amounts $53 billion. Around half of our tax revenue is spent to pay installment of these loans every year. The current devastation require more money. Unfortunately, instead of helping Pakistan by writing off standing loans, IMF and WB have given more loans to Pakistan. Pakistan cannot bear another loan, but it seems every single opportunity to strengthen the loan-web is being availed. Perhaps Pakistan has become strategically more important for the world or the growing rebellion is smelled by our lord in the air of country.
